Annual Day on the Rights of the Child 2026: Statement Delivered by CAT
On 9 March 2026, during the Annual Day on the Rights of the Child at the 61st session of the Human Rights Council, Sarah, one of the Child Advisors, delivered a statement via video message on behalf of the Children’s Advisory Team (CAT).
Sarah drew attention to the absence of her fellow advisors who are currently living in conflict situations, emphasizing the need to amplify their voices. She urged the international community to place peace at the forefront, protect children from the devastating impacts of war, and ensure their recovery through coordinated action and the creation of safe, inclusive spaces where young people can meaningfully participate in decision-making.
In times of conflict, she called for global solidarity to guarantee that all children can grow up with hope, opportunity, and security. The statement concluded by reminding listeners that war remains the greatest crime committed against children and young people. You can read her full statement here.
The 2026 Annual Day on the Rights of the Child took place on 9 March at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, bringing together States, UN representatives, children, and other stakeholders to address children’s rights in armed conflict. The event featured two thematic panels and ensured meaningful participation from children throughout.
