Despite the ongoing UN liquidity crisis, which led to the cancellation of the May pre-session and the September session and pre-session, the Committee on the Rights of the Child made an exceptional decision to hold its 101st Pre-Session online to ensure that the review process could continue without disruption.
This pre-session, covering Kazakhstan, Lesotho, Serbia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Timor-Leste, and the United Republic of Tanzania, was conducted in a reduced format, involving only the Country Task Teams (a small group of Committee members responsible for leading the review of a specific country).
Thanks to the close collaboration of Child Rights Connect and UNICEF, in support of OHCHR, the online pre-sessions were made possible. Each organization provided different forms of support – from coordinating civil society and child participation to offering logistical, technical, and interpretation assistance. This combined effort ensured that meaningful dialogue and preparation for the countries’ reviews could continue despite the financial and logistical constraints.
The Lists of Issues arising from the 101st Pre-Session will soon be published on the Committee’s website.
Looking ahead, the 102nd Pre-Session will take place partially from 17–19 November 2025, concerning Denmark, Italy, Morocco, the Republic of Moldova, and Uruguay. During this session, the Committee will adopt the Lists of Issues Prior to Reporting (LOIPRs) for these countries, which are expected to be made public in late November or early December 2025.
