About the Global Consultation

The United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) is developing a General Comment on Sustainable Development and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (GC on SD). This is the first time that the CESCR will involve children in the preparation of a General Comment. The objective of the Committee is to gather children’s views at an early stage so that the first draft of the General Comment reflects children’s views. The Committee also wants to understand how the issues that it will be looking at affect children’s rights. Other opportunities will be given for children to engage during the process to ensure a sustainable engagement.

The date of the Consultation is coming up! Support children's engagement!

How can you support children’s engagement?

In order to get children’s views and support their engagement in the consultations organized by the Committee, partner organisations are invited to run a preparatory meeting with children.

We have developed an Activity Pack so you can support children to engage in the Children’s Global Consultation. The Pack includes:

What are the timelines for the Global Consultation?

  • Step 1: Let us know if you plan to support children’s engagement.
  • Step 2: Use the Activity Pack to run a preparatory meeting with children
  • Step 3: Register selected child participants for the meetings with the CESCR (link will be made available closer to the event).
  • Step 4: Ensure children’s empowering, safe, and sustained participation during the meetings with the Committee on 5th and 6th April 2022.
  • Step 5: Stay tuned for follow-up activities!

In accordance with step 1, let us know if you wish to support children and run preparatory meetings by emailing Leire Ibáñez (she/her) at ibanez@childrightsconnect.org and Ana Carla Carlos (she/her) at hrc.programmes@childrightsconnect.org!

Do not hesitate to contact Leire and Ana if you have any questions!
